Graham & Brown’s 2019 Color of the Year Comes with a Wallpaper of the Year

by Jennifer Cameron inMediterranean Style

When it comes to Color of the Year announcements, this isn’t our first rodeo; we’ve already written about a handful of 2019 COTYs and we still have some months left of 2018. But, we don’t often see too many WOTYs—Wallpaper of the Years, that is. With the decorative trend making a bold return in recent years, it’s only fitting to celebrate it, courtesy of British brand Graham & Brown.

Meet the Tori wallpaper in teal , Graham & Brown’s pick for 2019 Wallpaper of the Year. The design “celebrates Eastern art” with a hand-painted Chinoiserie bird trail on silk paper. The companion COTY, Tiru , is derived from the rich blue of the backdrop, and “celebrates tranquility, good luck and longevity.”

“We have identified Kabuki as a key design influence for 2019 and the Wallpaper and Color of the Year 2019,” Paula Taylor, Graham & Brown’s color and trend specialist said in a press release. “With a rich ancient history, entwining spiritual meanings and diverse mix of inspired imagery, Kabuki inspired this glamorous paper and color that transform traditional art into a modern style statement.”

The deep marine hue reminds us of another COTY— Sherwin-Williams’ 2018 pick, Oceanside , which they described as having “a sense of the familiar with a hint of the unknown, bridging between old and new, light and dark.” Whether you call it Tiru or Oceanside, we’re glad to see moody teals continue their popularity .
