On September 3, writer and actor Mindy Kaling posted a photo to her Instagram from inside her vibrant home (made even more vibrant by her daughter Katherine’s primary-colored playset). Though her followers laughed at Kaling being trapped inside the toddler zone, most couldn’t help but comment on the color scheme happening in the space.
It’s pink, blue, and pastel all over—an untraditional yet classy scheme that’s putting everyone in “a good mood,” as “The Mindy Project’s” Rebecca Rittenhouse commented.
“I’ve been outsmarted by a toddler, how’s your Thursday going?” Kaling asked in the caption of her pic.
Kaling moved into her Los Angeles home in 2017 , and she and her designer Katy Ridder went wild with color. In this room specifically, Ridder decided to paint the woodwork robin’s egg blue, which is accented by a pale pink area rug and matching floral curtains.
The ship painting behind Kaling, mounted on the mirrored mantle, is by Andy Dixon, a Canadian musician and artist who specializes in colorblocked, bright pieces that almost have a vintage paint-by-number feel. Kaling has several of Dixon’s pieces hung throughout her home.
Though this room is technically Kaling’s office/lounge, it has slowly, but surely, turned into Katherine’s play space. See the interlocking kiddo play mat under the desk? Gotta love a multi-purpose room.
Though cotton-candy pink and robin’s egg blue may not be for everyone, it’s hard not to smile at the color pairing when taking a peek inside this space. It’s perfectly suited for comedy-writer mom, toy-loving daughter, and anyone who considers themselves a pastel princess.
