Sonos, the multi-room audio streaming company, has added the SoundCloud music streaming service to its line-up. As of today, you'll be able to use your Sonos system to stream tracks directly from the popular online service.
Unlike other music streaming services, SoundCloud , is completely free. Artists post their own tracks to the site, where community members can then comment on them, interacting with each other and the artist. There are a lot of unsigned and unknown artists on the site, which can be a good way to discover new music. However, established artists also post new tracks and different mixes to the site as well. On top of that the platform also supports podcasts, which are posted by news sites, comedians and more.
All of the content on SoundCloud is discoverable through the Sonos app. With its universal search facility, you may even discover new tracks from favourite artists that you didn't know existed. The only thing you won't be able to do with the app is comment on tracks, but that's because Sonos is about consuming music; however, once you've discovered something you like there's nothing to stop you going onto the site to add a comment and get involved.
There's a ton of content available, with 12 hours of music and audio uploaded every single minute. Look at it like that and there's bound to be something on there that you like.
At launch SoundCloud will be in beta. To add it to your Sonos system use the app to go to the 'more music' section. You can select SoundCloud from the list and sign into your account from there to start streaming. You can find out more about the service and how it works on Sonos at www.sonos.soundcloud.com . SoundCloud joins established music streaming services on Sonos, including Deezer, Napster and Spotify, amongst others.
