MLA+ in collaboration with Felixx Landscape Architects has reimagined the complicated and fragmented industrial landscape around the G107 highway (formerly the main entrance road from Hong Kong to Shenzhen) as a key driver for urban regeneration. The highway will remain as a primary connector to the different areas, but rather than remain a utilitarian infrastructure, either side of the G107 will be transformed into a 52 km2 mixed-use residential/industrial zone that makes the most of the exist urban fabric. Aside from a reformed canal, walkable public outdoor spaces, and more, the project addresses issues like regular flooding and traffic. More importantly, it looks to see Shenzhen’s transition from an industry based economy to an economy based on innovation.
